Earlier this year, 33 Realty and our sister company Cubed Construction officially rolled out a new employee benefit – paid-time off for volunteer work.
33 Realty and Cubed Construction have always embraced social responsibility and annually donate to many local causes including the Chicago Real Estate Rumble, Chicagoland Toys for Tots, and the Billie S Booth Fund at NorthShore University HealthSystem. In researching a VTO policy, we wanted to expand our impact and allow employees to use time and resources for community service projects that are of personal interest.
The Volunteer Time Off “VTO” Policy allows for our full-time employees to request up to 8 additional hours of PTO per calendar year provided they use that time for non-profit volunteer work. Already our team members are taking advantage of this new employee benefit and using their time to pursue passion projects, which range from spending the day outdoors at Indiana Dunes National Park to organizing outdoor activities for adults living with learning disabilities.
In 2016, the CECP reported that only 61% of companies offered some type of VTO policy but according to Glassdoor more than 75% of workers expect employers to provide a VTO benefit. 33 Realty and Cubed Construction wanted to close that gap.
“We recognized that in order to attract and retain the best talent, we would need to provide an environment where employees’ are encouraged and provided time to give back,” said Drew Millard, Founder of 33 Realty. “It was an easy decision to expand our corporate giving to make time for employees to do what the love and have a positive impact outside of the workplace.”
