Cubed Construction’s Latest Buzz
Cubed Construction, a 33 company, is general contracting and construction management firm that specializes in the renovation of multi-family and mixed use buildings, along with retail and office build outs. When the popular top media and digital brand BuzzFeed sourced Cubed to renovate their new Chicago office, Cubed set their sights on using creative solutions to address their client’s needs: renovating an office space for company that was reliant on a collaborative employee culture all while providing room to grow and utilizing cost effective solutions.
CONSTRUCTION FOCUS: TIMELY RENOVATION SOLUTIONS
BuzzFeed is a wildly popular media company that delivers original reporting, insight and viral content that ranges from articles on political and world news to the more lighthearted “39 accessories that look exactly like your favorite food” The company is accustomed to working in the fast paced viral environment and needed their renovation to be completed quickly with that in mind.
Cubed addressed the short one month time constraints of the project by having their client provide a “must have list” of mandatory before move in renovations that Cubed prioritized accordingly. “We sped up the process by using building materials we knew were in stock and available immediately, we also used in house carpet installers and utilized already established vendor relationships to ensure the time frame and budget was adhered to.” reports Principal and founder of Cubed Construction, Eric Weber.
Cubed payed special attention to the wireless capabilities of the renovated office, understanding the important part technology plays for the company. They worked with BuzzFeed IT staff and electricians to assure that the Cat6-low voltage cabling was installed correctly to the new work stations, the server and WAP locations.
CONSTRUCTION FOCUS: COLLABORATIVE WORK SPACES WITH ROOM TO GROW
“With the company being so focused on employees working collaboratively, we also knew how important it was for us to provide break out spaces that were conducive and comfortable for small conversations among BuzzFeed employees.” Cubed Construction, Project Manager, Jenna Courchane reports. Four private breakout spaces were incorporated into the design, including a large conference room with a monitor display. Open meeting spaces were also made available in the dining and lounge areas. Cubed also addressed the desire of BuzzFeed to have the room to grow and ensured that there was space in their design for additional work stations to be included at a later date.
The project was well matched for Cubed expertise in balancing the considerations of functional floor planning strategies and aesthetic packages that are fluid enough to adapt to the changing needs of the client.
